The Indy Burn Developmental Academy keeps a collection of players
within the U9 age group together as a group as opposed to placing
them on individual teams. Indy Burn Academy does NOT "cut" or
"tryout" players and all children that want to play can. The
Academy is an idea that is being used in many areas of the United
States and around the world. There are no "A, B, and C" teams in the
Indy Burn Academy as players stay in pools and may be moved back and
forth, according to their progress and development throughout the
year. Indy Burn Academy emphasis is on developing players and FUN!
(Currently most travel clubs in Indiana have young U9 players attend
a one or two day "tryout" and players are then placed on teams
according to their abilities.)
The Indy Burn Academy approach accommodates and accepts young
players still have a lot of learning and growing to do in the game.
It recognizes that putting these young players in an environment
where they will receive more training than matches is more
developmentally appropriate. This approach will allow Indy Burn to
keep players in a pool, foster development over winning, and allow
these young players to freely play. Several times during each
season, Indy Burn Developmental Academy will play non-result
oriented competition against other Clubs who also have an U9
"Developmental Academy League."
The four
major objectives for the Indy Burn Developmental Academy League are
to create a better environment (FUN) for player development,
coaching education, parent education, and referee development.
